first summer on a roof
I started working while still at school — every summer meant a construction site. By the time my own companies appeared, I already had industrial roofs, work as a foreman and site manager and professional training at TECHNONICOL behind me.
Below is what happened at each stage, what it taught me and why a business of my own eventually appeared.
I first went up on a roof in the summer of 1999, still at school, in a crew of XXI Vek LLC. The first sites were the Spetsavto and Trolza plants.
I started as a grade two roofer and worked up to grade six over several years. Every summer I went to a construction site — with no pauses between studying and working.
In 2002–2003 I worked as a roofer on the construction of the first pilot industrial chemical weapons destruction facility in Russia, in the village of Gorny. I was one of the youngest people on the site.
We built the roofs of buildings 11 and 33 and of the guard posts. For a teenager this was not a two-week side job but a real industrial construction site with discipline, risk and responsibility.
After several years as a roofer I became a foreman and then a site manager. By 2007 I was responsible not for my own section but for people, deadlines, levels and the final result.
I worked on construction projects, including the Avrora shopping centre. I walked the site with a levelling instrument, organised crews and made decisions on the spot — the work of a site manager, where a mistake shows immediately.
At the same time, I studied Industrial and Civil Engineering part-time at Saratov State Technical University. I did not complete the degree: work, family and then starting a business took all my time. The studies gave me a foundation that later proved useful in working with designs, standards and technical solutions.
At university I saw a TECHNONICOL job advert and sent my CV: after several years on roofs I wanted to understand materials from the supplier’s side.
The company gave me strong professional training — from product knowledge and client work to negotiations, sales organisation and the launch of a new division.
While the employee in charge of the launch was relocating from another city, I found the warehouse and the office and helped with hiring and organising the work. I was 21.
In 2008 the new division moved clearly ahead of its competitors and quickly took a strong position, and I became one of the company’s top sales managers.
We worked with roofing and insulation systems. Among the projects of that period were the Burtasy gymnastics centre and the Sura Palace of Water Sports in Penza, the chemical weapons destruction plant in the village of Leonidovka, and the Real and MegaMebel shopping centres in Saratov, along with many other sites.
The crisis began in the autumn of 2008, the network started closing divisions, and our branch was shut down. Employment ended; the experience of launching a business stayed.
On 11 June 2009 I registered MPKM LLC. I was 22. I started with what I already knew: finding materials, organising deliveries, negotiating with manufacturers and working out what is actually needed on site.
Gradually the work concentrated on professional construction chemicals: concrete repair and protection, waterproofing, industrial floors, anchoring and then structural strengthening systems.
In 2014 a second business appeared — Dipchel LLC, a separate company for composite materials and raw materials for manufacturing.
From that moment externally bonded carbon-fibre reinforcement became my core subject: the regulatory framework, calculations, testing, fire protection, typical mistakes and real practice on site.
Today the work is not limited to supply. It is selecting a system for a specific structure, technical and calculation support, documentation, application guidance and building an open knowledge base on the company websites.
The companies supply materials for industrial, energy, infrastructure and civil projects in Russia and abroad — from an office building in Japan to a drilling platform in the Caspian Sea.
